The Clever Maid and the Mango Affair - Story Online
A farmer named Ramlinga lived in a small village near Warangal. His wife had died two years ago. There was no one to work in the house. So he had to hire Bhanumati as a maid.

Bhanu was a good maid. She was adept at cleaning the house, handling food for animals, clothes, utensils etc. There was only one problem. She was very gluttonous.
She would often eat something or the other by hiding in the kitchen. Ramlinga caught her red-handed once or twice but it did not affect Bhanu. She would escape by telling a blatant lie. Finally, fed up, Ramlinga said to her, 'If I catch you eating anything secretly from today onwards, I will fire you from your job.'
Fearing losing her job, Bhanu became a little cautious. One day Ramlinga brought a good variety of 'Jahangir' mango. His friend Anant was about to come. He called Bhanumati - Listen, peel this mango and cut it into pieces. Both friends will eat it with pleasure."

Bhanumati loved mangoes very much. Despite trying hard to convince herself, she could not stop. She finished the whole mango by the time she tasted the pieces. Just then she heard Ramling's voice, "Bhanumati, cut the mango and bring it. Anant must be coming."
Now darkness came before Bhanumati's eyes. She started worrying about losing her job. Then she thought of a plan. She said to Ramling, "Master, sharpen the knife. The mango peel is not coming off finely."
Ramling started sharpening the knife. Anant arrived at the door. Bhanumati took him to a corner and said, "It seems master is angry with you. While sharpening the knife, he was mumbling that 'Today I will cut Anant's nose.'"

Anant peeped inside. Ramling was sharpening the knife while humming a song. Then Anant ran away.
Bhanumati said to Ramling, 'Sir, your friend snatched the mango from me and ran away.'
Ramling ran fast after Anant with the knife in his hand. Anant started running even faster. Ramling was shouting-
'Stop brother, at least cut it in half and give it to me.'

Anant thought that Ramling was asking for the half cut nose. The poor fellow never came that way again. Ramling too returned tired and exhausted.
Bhanumati, who had digested the delicious mango, started preparing for the next theft.
