Outsmarting the Thief: The Tale of Raju's Bull - Short Story


Raju the farmer's bull got lost. Now how can one find an animal like a bull? The poor farmer tried his best but could not find his bull.


After a few days of hardship, Raju said to his wife-

Short Story

'Oh lucky one! Without a bull, the plough will not work, if the plough does not work then farming will not happen, if farming does not happen then where will the grain come from, if the grain does not come then how will the stomach be filled?'

Raju's wife was very clever. She said to her husband, 'We should buy a bull for our work, but you are very innocent, anyone can fool you, that is why I will also go with you to buy a bull'


What objection could Raju have? Both of them went to buy the bull. While roaming in the fair, Raju's wife saw that their lost bull had come to the fair for sale, she recognized her bull. The thief had come to sell the bull. When Raju claimed his bull, a big argument ensued. The thief was adamant on his point. He used to say this again and again-


'Your bull must be a look-alike of my bull.'


Then Raju's wife covered both the eyes of the bull with her hands and said-

'If this is your bull, then tell me quickly, which eye is it blind in?'


The thief showed his cleverness and said quickly, 'Its left eye is bad.'


'Think well, you will regret.' Raju's wife said. Now the thief got nervous. He had stolen the bull but could not see its face properly. He was in a bad trap. He guessed and said-


'No, no, its right eye is bad.'

Short Story

Raju called the entire market. In front of everyone, the hand was removed from the bull's eyes. Both the bull's eyes were fine. The thief was caught red-handed. He was beaten badly. Raju and his wife returned home happily with their lost bull.
