The Strong Lion and the Foolish Jackal - Short Story

The Strong Lion and the Foolish Jackal - Short Story

Years ago, a strong lion lived in a cave in the Himalayas. One day, he was returning to his cave after hunting and eating a buffalo. On the way, he met a skinny jackal who lay down and bowed down to him.

Short Story

When the lion asked him the reason for doing so, he said, “Sir, I want to become your servant. Please take me under your protection. I will serve you and will make a living from the prey left by you.” The lion agreed to his request and kept him under his protection as a friend.

short-story,

In a few days, the jackal became very fat by eating the prey left by the lion.

Short Story

Seeing the lion’s valor every day, he also considered himself a replica of the lion. One day he said to the lion, “Hey lion! I have also become as powerful as you now. Today I will hunt an elephant and eat it and will leave the remaining meat for you.”

Since the lion considered the jackal a friend, he did not take offence at his words and stopped him from doing so.

Short Story

The arrogant jackal, caught in a web of illusion, rejected the lion's advice and stood on the top of the mountain. From there, he looked around and saw a small group of elephants below the mountain. Then, making jackal sounds like a lion's roar three times, he jumped on a big elephant. But instead of falling on the elephant's head, he fell on its feet. And the elephant, with its ecstatic gait, placed its front leg on his head and moved forward. In a moment, the jackal's head was shattered and he breathed his last.

Watching all the jackal's actions from the top of the mountain, the lion then said  'Those who are foolish and arrogant, such is their fate.'

Short Story

Lesson: Arrogance and stupidity go hand in hand, so one should never be arrogant at any time in life.
