Dwarf Archer and his Struggle for Respect - Short Story
A dwarf became a great archer by learning archery from an excellent
teacher. But whenever he went to a kingdom for his livelihood, people
would make fun of him without knowing his abilities. Seeing that all his
abilities were being wasted by people's mockery, he devised a plan for his
success.
Short Story
While roaming around, he found a well-built weaver named Bhimsen and
showed him his fighting skills and proposed to make him a warrior. He told
the weaver to just follow the dwarf's advice; he would stand behind him as
his follower and show all his skills.
The dwarf then asked weaver to go to the king and ask for a job as a
warrior. Bhimsen did the same. The king gave Bhimsen a job as a chieftain
just by looking at his stature. After this, whenever the king assigned any work to Bhimsen or sent him
to war, the dwarf would stand behind him as his follower and complete
all his tasks. The king and the rest of the people believed that Bhimsen
was indeed a great warrior.
Within a few days, Bhimsen became even fatter after getting wealth and
fame and along with his intelligence, his ego also increased. Then he
started treating the dwarf like a servant instead of a friend. The dwarf
found Bhimsen's behaviour insulting and he decided in his mind that he
will make Bhimsen taste the fruit of his rudeness and ingratitude
someday.
Short Story
Coincidentally, a king of a neighboring country attacked Bhimsen's
kingdom. The king entrusted Bhimsen with the leadership of the army.
Bhimsen rode on a huge elephant and made the dwarf sit behind him. But as
soon as he saw the huge enemy army from close, he was stunned. He fell
from the elephant trembling and was seen rolling on the elephant's
dung.
The enemy army had moved ahead. The dwarf was a patriot and a loyal
warrior. He immediately took command of the army and roared like a lion
and attacked the enemy army. Under his able leadership, the enemy army
suffered a defeat and fled from the battlefield.
Short Story
When the king heard about the dwarf's war skills, he immediately
appointed him as his new commander. The dwarf then gave a lot of money to
Bhimsen and sent him away, inspiring him to continue his old work as a
weaver.
Thus, the dwarf received the respect he deserved through his intelligence
and bravery.
